What a Season! 2025 Whale Watching Highlights
Perth’s whale watching season drew to a close in mid-November and we already can’t wait for August, when hundreds of majestic humpback whales will migrate past the WA coastline once again.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on one (or more!) of our scenic 2-hour cruises to watch the whales in action. As ever, they put on quite a show, from breaches to pec slaps and super close encounters. We were lucky enough to see it all and can’t wait to do it again come winter/spring 2026.
2025 was a particularly special year for us because it was the first whale watching season for our new state-of-the-art catamaran Ocean Master. Custom-built for whale watching, Ocean Master has a stepped deck at the bow and a panoramic rooftop deck for prime viewing opportunities – plus large open deck spaces that provide plenty of space to move around, capture spectacular close-up photos, and spend quality time with these gentle giants.
Marine biologist Brooke in action sharing educational commentary on board
As always, we had marine biologists on board every departure to provide live educational commentary and keep our guests updated on the whereabouts of the whales. Among our pool of marine biologists is Brooke, who was born in Perth and grew up along the WA coastline in the Perth metro area and the Pilbara. Brooke has studied and worked with many marine fauna species including whales, dolphins, dugongs, seals, sea lions, sharks, rays and sea turtles. Her passion has always been marine mammals, specifically whales.
Speaking about the 2025 whale season, she said: "Ticking off another amazing humpback whale season! From the breathtaking breaches to close, curious encounters, the season always flies by too fast.
“A huge thank you to our incredible marine biologists and guides: Abby, Kinia, Laura, and Elsie. Thank you for your tangible passion and educating the next generation and the public on the amazing humpback highway we’re lucky enough to have in our back yard."
Brooke has an Instagram page dedicated to whale sightings along the Perth coastline, which you can see here.
Abby D’Cruz is another of our wonderful marine biologists. She said: "This season was one to be remembered, with it being the first on new vessel Ocean Master.
“We had many fantastic days out. This year also gave me the greatest whale watching day I had ever experienced, with two adult humpbacks 'mugging' the boat for at least an hour and a half and the one very large female doing continuous pectoral fin slaps so close to the boat you could feel the impact from the sound and some ocean splash.”
